•Pain in ear is called otalgia.
•Ear pain is usually caused by infections.
Eg. -otitis externa, mastoditis or middle ear infections.
•Pain in ear can also arise from infection in the nearby regions which affects the nerves of ear. This is called Reffered pain and may occur from dental conditions, jaw disorders , afflications of upper digestive tract , throat or spinal area.
•There is no pain in inner ear because inner ear have no pain sensory nerves.

•Fungal infection (otomycosis)
•Tumors
Middle ear :-
•Trauma
•Eustachian tube obstruction
•Tumors
•Acute mastoditis
•Barotrauma
•External dural abscess
Reffered pain in the ear is from following nerves:-
• v (Trigeminal)
•ix (glossopharyngeal)
•vii (facial)
•x (Vagus)
•cervical (C2,C3)
Important conditions of reffered pain :-
•Dental caries
•Impacted wisdom tooth in young adults
•Root abscess
•Acute inflammatory and ulcerative condition of tongue
•Tonsillitis
Treatment:-
• Treatment of underlying cause
•Antibiotics
•Analgesics
•Anesthetic eardrops
Ear pain symptoms in infants:-
•Pulling ears
•Excessive crying
•Irritability
•Sleeping difficulty
•Taggin at ears
•pain on touching ears
•Feverishness
